How much space between the washing machine and the wall?
With a freestanding washing machine, leave roughly 5 to 10 cm between the back of the machine and the wall. Waschturm™ cabinets come with wall brackets. With these brackets you can place the cabinet flat against the wall, provided all the connections fit within the 5 cm of space at the back. Do you need more room? Then you can use the brackets to place the cabinet about 5 cm from the wall.
Why do you need space around your washing machine?
A washing machine needs room to move during the spin cycle. Without enough clearance you get vibration, noise and possible damage to your wall or furniture. You also need practical room for the drain hose and the water supply.
At the back (5 to 10 cm): this is the most important space for the connections and to stop the machine from banging against the wall during the spin cycle.
At the sides (1 to 2 cm): a small gap on both sides stops vibration from being transferred straight to walls or cabinets, which limits noise and damage.
On top (at least 1.5 cm): when installed under a worktop this provides ventilation room so heat can escape.
How does this work with a washing machine cabinet?
The washing machine cabinets from Waschturm™ are designed with a cabinet-in-cabinet construction. The washing machine stands in the cabinet, not on the floor. The cabinet itself stands about 5 cm from the wall, which automatically gives you roughly 10 cm for all the connections. Vibrations are directed down through the cabinet-in-cabinet construction, which provides stability and less noise. Ventilation grilles are fitted as standard, so you do not have to worry about heat dissipation.
